It’s been kind of busy over here at the Storey house, so I thought I’d do a little catch-up post. Moving at Christmas was insane, but we got ourselves in and (somewhat) settled before my birthday on the 22nd, which was some kind of Christmas miracle in itself. I also think Christmas decor covers a multitude of sins, since we haven’t hung anything on the walls yet and our rugs aren’t allowed to be on the newly refinished floors until a few weeks have passed. It’s a little bare without our garland and tree up, and since we didn’t get the house Christmas ready until Dec. 19, I’m leaving everything up until after New Years just to enjoy it a little longer.
Also, I have zero idea where my memory card + reader are, so it’s iPhone photos upon iPhone photos for your viewing pleasure. It’s my New Year’s resolution to find them… pray for me.
We have big plans for furnishing and decorating here, but are in love with all the finishes that are already done here. We’re saving all our reno energy for the old house that’s getting a lot of love poured into it in the next few weeks. I’m excited to update you on that when we have it ready and on the market! It’s going to be an absolute transformation (floors, walls, trim, kitchen, etc. CAN’T WAIT.)
As for our plans in this house, we’ve got a lot of settling in to do. Most of our boxes are unpacked, but once again, moving at Christmas is kind of crazy so we have a lot of organizing to do. The general vibe of this house is far more traditional than our old house, so we’ve made some different design decisions with furniture and decor that I am LOVING. It’s overall a blend of traditional and modern elements, and I’ve really been pushing myself to learn more about the history of interior design so every decision we make has a little logic behind it. So far it’s been a huge help since we’ve ordered everything without seeing it on site. And that folks is my KU Bachelor of Arts at work - bringing me back to the 6 Principles of Gestalt even now. Rock Chalk and all that jazz!
We’ve had a lot of people ask us why we moved, to which we say “We just fell in love with this house.” And it’s 110% true. It takes a special house to make you want to uproot your toddler in December, but we couldn’t love it more. Like we’re literally laying in bed every night and saying to each other “This is the best.” I’m really pumped to share it as we make it our own - so many fun house posts coming up!
