Local Feature: Nifty Nuthouse

I have been wanting to feature Nifty Nuthouse since I started this series, and when I heard they had moved into a bigger location, I knew it had to happen soon. My family has always loved this place - both sides of my family are longtime fans of their nuts and candy. To say they’re a Wichita classic would be an understatement. And if you haven’t been, there’s no better time than now with their new location.

I think I was so excited to come in, I forgot I was literally taking a kid into a candy store. B could not believe her luck! We got her a little bag of sesame sticks to carry while my mom and I shopped around. She figured out pretty quickly that those pretty little wrapped things were candy she could eat, so that was a smart move on Lolly’s part.

B’s “Don’t touch my snacks” Stink Eye kills me in this one.

B’s “Don’t touch my snacks” Stink Eye kills me in this one.

My grandpa used to get his unsalted boiled peanuts from the Nifty Nuthouse when he made Christmas candy (peanut clusters and peanut brittle, of course) and their packaging is the same classic, crisp brown bags. The pre-measured bags of candy and dried fruit are neatly stacked on the shelves, and it’s every variety you could imagine. I had no idea even half of it existed! It’s a snack lover’s dream.

We brought home the Sweet Caroline (very popular if you haven’t tried it) mix, BBQ Honey Spice mix (Jordan’s new favorite), and Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Caramels that absolutely knocked my socks off. It had been far too long since we’d been in here, and I forgot how good their mixes are. The quality is just there. You can’t beat it!

The entire store is bordered with vintage gumball machines! My grandpa used to buy his gumball machine candy here too. Their store is so full of charm (and memories for me personally.)

There’s a lot of space in the new location. It’s so family friendly! We saw mamas with strollers come in and have no issue thanks to the super wide aisles. Plus their hours are great if you have little kids since they open at 8AM. Apparently my grandpa used to pop in here to get his snacks before work also. Work snacks are necessary, am I right?

I know you are dying to go in and get your own nuts and candies to try, so their info is below! Give them a follow on social media, and make an outing of visiting their new location. Your tastebuds will thank you!

Local Feature: Bespoke Salon

Hello from my new favorite couch! My hair is looking SO fresh thanks to Bespoke Salon, and my heart was skipping after spending my morning in their gorgeous space.

The welcome counter is so gorgeous, and it’s actually a refurbished piece. There’s tons of character and intentional details like this counter that are incorporated throughout the space that make the designer in me so, so happy.

Okay, real talk. You know how you get your hair washed in the salon, and it’s equal parts wonderful and painful thanks to that awkward sink edge on your neck? Not the case here! These chairs were absolute heaven with zero neck pain over the sink edge - just the way God intended it.

Bespoke also does lashes! These services are set aside in this adorable little nook behind a sliding barn door. Basically it’s the perfect nap-while-your-lashes-get-beautified room. If you’ve never had your lashes done, it’s definitely something to consider. Speaking from experience, it saves SO much time when you’re getting ready, and it’s also great for special occasions, vacations, etc.

While you’re waiting for your color treatment, you’re welcome to hang out at this bar area, get some work done, answer emails, etc. I spent my downtime enjoying some Reverie coffee while it was still hot! (Basically the dream for me right now.)

You know it’s a well-designed place when even the bathrooms are Pinterest-worthy! I’m not going to lie - I love some eclectic design, especially when it incorporates taxidermy. When you’re married to a hunter, it’s really cool to see pieces like this mixed into modern design.

Bespoke Salon is located at 9747 E. 21st St. N. Ste. 117, Wichita, KS 67206. You can book through their website here! Follow them on Instagram and Facebook.

Local Feature: Reverie Roasters + Founders Bakery

B's face is saying: "How in the heck have we not featured Reverie yet?" Great point there, B Bear! I've loved Reverie Roasters for the longest time, and they recently moved into a new location with an addition of a bakery. I've been dying to visit, so we popped in for some coffee and cookies (plus brought some bread home - YUM.)

The bakery and coffee sides connect seamlessly. It reminded me a lot of another cafe we visited in San Francisco - so effortlessly cool and modern while also embracing historical details (like the ceiling!). Give me all the carbs and caffeine in a pretty building, and I'll be a happy lady.

The staff could not have been nicer. It's such a great vibe in there, and I love that there's tons of spots to meet a friend, work, or do a little of both. I would also like to point out that this is the kind of place that will serve you a real Caramel Macchiato, and you'll never be the same again. (Word to the wise: Not for the faint of heart. It comes in a very cute Instagrammable espresso shot too.)

I always get the Rosemary Salted Caramel Latte because it is a little herb-y, salty, and sweet, and I crave like you wouldn't believe. They're killing me right now with their new cafe open at the Downtown Library, and it's making my love for this latte harder to resist. I also got a loaf of their Sourdough Beet Surprise (sounds quirkier than it tasted!) to take home. It was amazing with a sandwich of Italian deli meat + tomatoes + greens. I need to go back and try their other breads! And finally, word to the wise, their cold brew is unmatched - big fan.

B inhaled her from-scratch snickerdoodle cookie. She's a fan, no doubt. They had so many fun desserts to choose from, including Creme Brulee. I love that they have real food here now too, aside from just standard cafe items and coffee.

I spy with my little eye... wine glasses and beer taps! They now have a grown-up drink menu and weekday Happy Hours to boot.

It's so great when local businesses expand and grow, and this is a prime example here in Wichita! If you live here, and you haven't stopped by (or checked out their new bakery) you've got to make it a priority!
